The Knowles Trough, located at the junction of Beach Street and Atlantic Avenue, is an antique horse trough dedicated to Mr. Henry Miles Knowles (1849-1903), a relative of long time CGC member Virginia Knowles’s husband.  The Knowles family of Scituate originally maintained the trough with modest plantings in the sculptured bowl.   Since the 1970’s, several of the Cohasset Garden Club’s neighboring members have lovingly cared for the Knowles trough and planted seasonal flowering plants throughout the blooming months.  A water supply was recently added to ensure the longevity and health of the beautiful plantings.
